The Assam District is in northeastern India. The heavier and maltier Assam teas grown in the eastern flatlands have the strength of flavor preferred in breakfast teas. These teas stand up well to the addition of lemon or milk. Estate grown Assams, which grow at a higher altitude, are more delicate and have a depth of flavor that make them suitable for drinking, plain or with sugar throughout the day.
